  • Wellington & Co. joins NYSE.

1929
  • Herbert G. Wellington Sr. gains recognition for shorting the market during the 1929 crash.
1946
  • Herbert G. Wellington Jr. returns from military service in WWII (D-Day, Germany, Philippines) and is awarded a seat on the NYSE by his father in recognition of his service.
1978
  • McMullen & Hard merges into Wellington & Co.
1982
  • Shields & Company is founded by J.V. Shields Jr. and David Shields.

1986
  • Stillman, Maynard & Co. merges into Wellington & Co.

1987
  • Shields & Company becomes the first broker-dealer approved for direct telephone access to the NYSE floor.

  • The Equity Risk Management Division is formed.

  • Founder Jerry Shields’ horse ‘Country House’ wins the Kentucky Derby at 65–1 odds.

  • Wellington Shields moves its clearing and custody services to BNY Pershing for enhanced technology and service.
