As an Account Executive, Phil prefers equities to other investment vehicles because when you find a good story it will likely produce good returns for a long time. When looking for equity investment ideas, he employs extensive research and places a high value on those backed by good management. Phil looks for companies in well-positioned industries with proven history of results and a favorable earnings outlook. He networks both within and outside of the industry, cross-pollinating ideas to formulate unique investment strategies.
Previous Experience/Career Highlights:
- Phil opened the Sarasota office for Shields & Company, the predecessor firm to Wellington Shields & Co in 1991. Prior to that, he was a Branch Manager for Dupont, Glore, Forgan & Co. after working at Herzfeld & Stern for a number of years. Phil began his career at Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith just prior to the “May break” in 1962 in their New York office, following Merrill’s broker training program.
- Phil wrote a market column for the NY Times regional newspaper group (East Coast) and prior to that for the Sarasota Herald Tribune.
- He produced and anchored a cable TV program in 46 states called “Wall Street Today” for approximately three years.
